Journey To America Project 2017-2018 (October to January)
Immigrant and refugee Students in Ms. Juelke's & Mrs. Pulst's EL ENglish 4 class wrote about their journeys to America.
Stage 1 (October)
At South High: Students learned about how to tell stories and listen to former students and local refugee and immigrant community leaders tell their stories. Mental Health organization, Imagine Thriving, also visits the classroom and works with students to understand and deal with past trauma and experiences.
Students participated in NARRATIVE 4 STORY EXCHANGE WITH a Mainstream Senior english class.

At Davies: STudents heard refugee and immigrant speakers tell their stories
Stage 2 (October-November) -At South: Volunteers from NDSU, MSUM, Concordia and the community Came in the classroom to help students with the technical writing during an eight week writing workshop.
Stage 3 (December-January) - Students published an e-book of their stories along with a class anthology that was distributed to every teacher in both schools and throughout the community.
Stage 4-(January and beyond)- students learned public speaking techniques during a speech unit and then applied the techniques to their stories.
* STudents read their stories during a story reading at South high on Jan 23rd and a public reading at NDSU on jan 24th from 9:30-11:30. Throughout the year, STudents will continue with smaller story readings around the community and within the school.
Other readings:
Dec. 30th- ACT Up Theater- "HOME" musical production and story reading show benefitting LSS!
6 students read their stories during the show.
Jan 15th- 6 Students read at Concordia during MLKjr day
Jan 25- one student will read on a panel with ms. Juelke for a conference at Concordia
April 20- Diversity day at Ed Clapp- some students will present on their culture and others will read their stories to Elementary students
