*March 23-25, 2018 - Green Card Voices Youth Summit for South High Students!- Green Card Voices hosted the Immigrant Youth Summit: Working Across Cultures, a three-day gathering of focused and interactive networking and leadership development for our 90 immigrant co-authors of the “Green Card Youth Voices” books (Minneapolis, Fargo, and St. Paul editions). The summit was in Minneapolis, and include networking time, panels, and workshops in order to connect GCV youth authors to one another across cultures and geographies and equip them with skills to be more effective leaders. They explored the Race Exhibit at the Science Museum of MN, participated in workshops, network, and heard from immigrant leaders at MN Target Field, participated in a book-building workshop at MN Center for the Book Arts, and heard performances of prominent immigrant writers, poets, and spoken word artists at the Loft Literary Center. ALL EXPENSES ARE PAID.

My students and I partnered with ACT UP theater group (Organizers: Natalie & Jenny Shaw, Pennie Fike, etc.) and put on a show in benefit of refugee resettlement and LSS. Five ELL SOUTH students and 1 NDSU (former South student) performed their stories from our new JOURNEY TO AMERICA: NARRATIVE SHORT STORIES Volume 4 (which comes out in January) & Green Card Voices, alongside of local theater students who will perform singing and acting numbers.
